Zermatt Switzerland
Stretching across vast landscapes of enormous mountains with layers of perfectly placed snow, dusted evergreen trees, and glaciers sitting on top of the peaks looming in the clouds all wrapping around turquoise blue lakes, I feel like I just walked through the wooden wardrobe and entered the magical world of Narnia. As we go higher and higher into the sky, I see the little wooden homes and villages becoming smaller and smaller until all I can see below me are the clouds. The light reflecting off the pure white snow is so piercing and the air so thin that I become a little dizzy. Every angle I turn to gaze at is snow heaven. As I stroll down a large path in the forest, I look around me and to my surprise there are no other humans in sight. I imagine the evil witch of Narnia about to ride up on her sled with her little dwarf and lure me into sitting with her to eat Turkish delight or she will turn me into ice. I can only imagine what wonderful wild animals lie behind these massive trees. Looking up, I see one light moody blue glacier after another on the peaks of the mountains. As I stroll down the mountain I am amazed with how powdery the snow is that I am almost tempted to take a bite. As I reach the end of the trail there it is right in front of me. Its size intimidates me but it’s dazzling diamond sparkling peak excites me all a the same time, the Matterhorn. Switzerland, from central Interlaken up to Murren, down to the southern most tip known as Zermatt where the Matterhorn waits for you, the magical world of Narnia that you thought as a child was only make believe, comes to life.
